Did you catch Sunday night?s episode of “Entourage?” The fast-paced and super hip comedy on HBO is absolute appointment viewing for the younger set. Though ratings have softened in its now seventh season, someone at Home Box Office has their marketing brain on. In the second episode of the new season, mega agent Ari Gold is trying to land the business of the NFL and must pitch to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Anyone in public relations has to pay homage to the tremendous job the Cowboys organization did last year in premiering and promoting their new digs. The Cowboys Stadium debut enjoyed a full introduction by Matt Lauer and Al Roker on NBC-TV’s “Today” as well as millions of dollars in industry and national media coverage. But the billion-dollar barn received another big bump on the sexy, stylish HBO comedy when it was the backdrop to Jerry?s cameo on “Entourage.”
The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that the show?s creator and producer, Doug Ellin derived the idea. But knowing what a savvy PR organization the Cowboys are, I suspect public relations director Rich Dalrymple had something to do with the idea. Whoever gets the credit, it was a brilliant marketing and PR move and I love to see mega brands come together with a good laugh.
